About Me

Maria Nevelson has a let’s do it! entrepreneurial spirit and enjoys scouting around for new possibilities.  Her clients appreciate her honesty and caring, and skillful negotiations on behalf of their interests, not hers.

In 2012, Maria saw it was time to move on from her interior design business of 24 years and blend aesthetics with sales.  She achieved Top Producer in her first year of real estate and now invests in rental properties.

Philadelphia is rich in architectural details and Maria finds each block full of visual delights with marvels around every corner.  A long-ago transplant she is very proud to call Philadelphia home and resides in the historic Girard Estates with her husband.

Maria was born into the salt air of the Rockland, Maine coast and moved to Connecticut where she grew-up in a wood sculptor’s studio.  She learned the generosity of teaching from her mother and later would teach interior design at the Parsons School of Design in NYC and Moore College of Art.  Forward thinking, Maria studied art history at the George Washington University and was the first to graduate with credit for an internship for which she had created and petitioned the Dean.  At the Museum of Temporary Art she curated the mail art exhibit, “Sincerely San Francisco” and archived the collection. She worked at the Eric Makler Gallery and the Lawrence Oliver Gallery in Philadelphia and helped numerous art non-profits becoming Board Chair of Nexus Foundation for Today’s Art.  From 1988 to now, Nevelson llc has provided interior design for senior living facilities and yachts.  The 95 M/Y Shyraga’s art deco inspired design was featured on CNN’s “Style with Elsa Klensch”.  She consulted on Wesley Wei’s 2000 AIA Gold Award winning residence introducing the client to Wei and assuring the design and process.  Maria also is a third generation sculptor creating assemblages from scouted recycled wood.  In 2005, she established the Louise Nevelson Foundation, Inc. non-profit to educate and celebrate the life and art of the famous artist who is also her grandmother; and lectures across the United States.  Maria has also appeared in films, “The White Birch” as Cinderella, and the documentaries “Louise Nevelson: Awareness in the Fourth Dimension” and “Pedro E. Guerrero: A Photographer’s Journey”.  She currently serves on the Girard Estates Neighbors Association Zoning Committee and sponsors NextDoor.
